Throughout history, the breathing has been associated with life itself and has been considered almost sacred. Many cultures have developed various exercises of breathing that supposedly beneficial for the body. Only in the last century more or less the benefits of deep breathing exercise have been scientifically proven.

Breathing oxygenates the blood and deep breathing increases the amount of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. However, most of us is superficial respirators. It is that you do not spend you much air inside our lungs. The reason for this is probably the society in which we live.

Most of us were not in the Savannah, chasing Gazelle with a spear. We sat in Office cubicles or in front of the television. And when we move, we tend to drive where we want to go. And we were taught to sit yet since we were kids in the classroom. It is true that many of us take exercise, like running. Unfortunately, shallow breathing habit is hard to break and while exercise is good, breathing deeply during an interval of a day is not enough.

Deep breathing begins with breathing from the abdomen. Place your hand on the abdomen and the left hand on your chest and breathe as you usually do. If your left hand than the right rises, then you are a superficial reprieve. There are many factors that contribute to the shallow breathing, including poor posture which compresses the abdomen.

Shallow breathing can lead to problems over time, including fatigue, tension and stress, even in non-stressful situations. Shallow breathing is part of normal fear reaction and consistent shallow breathing can actually induce other elements of that reaction as increased heart rate and sweating. Thus, a very important advantage of deep breathing is a more quiet and relaxed body.

Deep breathing also has a number of other benefits.

* You can increase your resistance as more nutrients and oxygen to constantly reach muscle tissue.

* You can improve your lung capacity over time exercising muscles that expand and contract the lungs.

* You will have a more quiet response to stress and will continue to be more relaxed.

* Deep breathing can improve sleep and reduce wake me up in the middle of the night.

* Can improve concentration and promote clear thinking get more oxygen to the brain.

* Maybe one of the best benefits is an increase in awareness of one's self. We tend to ignore ourselves on this fact the world of yesterday. Pause for deep breathing exercise can have a very focused and clarify the effect.
