I sometimes hear from people who are desperately afraid of not carrying out a perfect Medifast experience. In other words, they are worried that they are going to do everything wrong.
I heard from someone who said: "I have some coworkers who have had some success on Medifast . I would like to lose some weight too, but I'm not very good in terms of completely complying with diets.
I am always looking for ways to tweak it. For example, I asked about taking a cheat day and my coworkers said that this would ruin the whole thing. I asked about eating a regular main meal instead of the lean and green meal, and they scoffed.
And I asked about making some adjustments to some of the foods, and they acted as if I were crazy or just wasting my time. Can you really ruin Medifast ? And if so, how? Isn't some compliance better than none at all?"
Keep in mind that I can only give you my opinion. I'm certainly not an expert. You can easily call or chat with one on the company's website. However, it's my personal opinion that the only way that you can truly "ruin" your experience on Medifast is to quit. Because if you quit, then obviously you are no longer going to get the benefit of the diet.
Sure, if you aren't always in compliance, you can't always expect to get optimal results. But some results are certainly better than none. And even a small amount of health benefits are worth seeking. I've always had the belief that it just makes sense to do what you need to do in order to happily stay on the diet.
If that means taking a cheat day from time to time, I would think that it is worth it, as long as that cheat day keeps you from quitting and means that you will get back on track afterward. When I first began my dieting path, I regularly added fat free cheese and salsa to the food. I still add sugar free syrup to the shakes. And by no means do I feel that my experience and my results are ruined.
I am not sure if I would make a daily habit of replacing the lean and green meal, though. Honestly, you can have a "regular dinner" and still make it a lean and green meal by making very minor adjustments. But I do understand skipping the lean and green from time to time, assuming it isn't a habit.
I look at it this way. The diet meals are much lower in calories than what you would typically eat. So even if you are only partly in compliance, you are still likely saving many calories over what would be a typical day. Would you have lost more weight if you had played it completely safe? Probably. But I'd be willing to bet that you would have still made out OK even if you tweak things a little.
And I believe that you are better off taking a longer term view than a shorter one. Ultimately, you want to be successful and you want to keep the weight off. You are less likely to do that if you feel overly restricted or deprived. So, again this is just someone's opinion, but I don't think it's possible to "ruin" this diet unless you quit.
